Create Your Own Food Culture

One of the major problems with any diet overhaul is a psychological addiction that people have their own 'comfort food. "Everyone is part of culture, a part of that culture includes foods that are traditionally given in certain circumstances, such as chicken soup with noodles when sick or ice cream when depressed. Beginning this past seemingly-innate tendency is a major part of the diet challenge.

My take is to start your own food culture. Trying to do things like wheat from non-wheat is possible, but to date most of the other made with starch flour plus xanthan gum, or eggs. This is the heritage of American food: Wheat flour, white sugar and chemical additives

.

Here's good news: there are lots of other food heritage, which had never heard of such ingredients. It's actually easier to adopt just one of those. Go 'Paleo'. Go Asia. Go African. Go Indonesian or Vietnamese or Japanese. Pretend you're a refugee, and all you have to cook the chicken and some sweet potatoes. Or do you cook the BBQ every day, because your oven broke.

In any case, this is what my wife and I have done in our early days as a low-carb diet, and it actually turned out to be kinda fun. Eating nothing but meat and whole fruits or vegetables (in any combination we could make them ).

We do not make more "fun" things these days, but that is still my base: pretend I actually hunted or gathered ingredients. Food is cheaper and tastier that way, and it takes your mind off the "oh wow, there is a or I can eat. " And seriously, if you have a rack of ribs smoked nice, what else does a person need?
