Food Safety - How to Prevent Food Induced Illnesses




Food safety is an important part of cooking, because knowledge and understanding of how food safety plays the role of bacteria in food is key to preventing food borne illness. If you follow a few simple rules you can prevent your family and friends from getting sick from the food we serve.


Simple soap and water are valuable tools. Wash all containers before using them to cook or serve. If you are using utensils to cook, wash it before you use it for serving. Bacteria from raw food can contaminate the utensils used in cooking. Make sure you wash your hands before and after handling raw food.


If you are cooking on outdoor use antibacterial wipes to clean both hands and the area to be cooked are a great option. Making sure everything you use to cook and server stays clean is important is to prevent disease.


Keep meat and vegetables separately. Do not use the same cutting board for cutting meat and vegetables. Cutting boards can harbor bacteria from raw meat then transfer to what is put on them. Make sure toto use a a cutting board for meat that can be disinfected . Place the cutting board in the dishwasher or washing in the hottest water possible to use a good soap. Cross contamination is a common problem. So, make sure all the boards are kept clean.


Food temperature is an important factor in food safety. Raw food should be kept at about 40 degrees to prevent bacterial growth. Keep raw foods in the refrigerator or cooler until ready to cook. Food left out can quickly grow bacteria so make sure to refrigerate the remains as soon as possible. Food left more than 2 hours should be discarded. Serve cooked food is as hot as possible.


Use chafing dishes or crock pots to maintain the temperature. Cooked food at temperatures lower than 140 degrees will begin to grow bacteria. Also, make sure cold foods stay cold. Nestle cold dishes in the bed of ice, if they will stay outside for a prolonged period.


If the food served at a party or buffet style, encourage your guests to wash their hands. Provide hand disinfection and display it where everyone will see. Make sure the serving utensils at all meals to encourage guests to not use their hands to serve. Properly cooked food can be contaminated with guests who are aware of food safety.


Food safety is important and time become warmer. Parties and barbeques are popular activities in both the spring and summer. Following these few simple rules you can prevent your family and friends for all the sick and run his party.
